Portrait session with our make up artist, Monique

This week we photographed one of our wonderful makeup artists, Monique Torres from Zalique Makeup. We had been wanting to get Monique in front of the camera for the past 18 months but she was a bit too nervous. We managed to convince her to come in for a few portraits and we had an amazing session with her. Even though she actively avoided being on the other side of the camera, she was a natural. She has a grace and poise which made our job so easy and the results, amazing.

Now Monique knows first hand what a session is like as she is often asked by our clients. She had such a great time that she is planning a trip back with her husband for a romantic couples session.

If you are searching for the right Brisbane photographer to capture your personality and spirit then please get in touch. We would love to have the opportunity to give you amazing photographs that you never thought were possible. Monique may even end up being your makeup artist for your session.

Please call Karen on 0402 230 669 if you would like to discuss your own personally designed photography session.

Portrait Photography – A little bit of history

Portrait photography or portraiture is photography of a person or group of people that displays the expression, personality, and mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is usually the person’s face, although the entire body and the background or context may be included.

The relatively low cost of the daguerreotype in the middle of the 19th century and the reduced sitting time for the subject, though still much longer than now, led to a general rise in the popularity of portrait photography over painted portraiture. The style of these early works reflected the technical challenges associated with long exposure times and the painterly aesthetic of the time. Subjects were generally seated against plain backgrounds and lit with the soft light of an overhead window and whatever else could be reflected with mirrors. Advances in photographic equipment and techniques developed, and gave photographers the ability to capture images with shorter exposure times and the making of portraits outside the studio.

Glamour portrait photography session for Feven

glamour photography

Feven’s friend Josh, purchased her a glamour portrait photography session with us as a gift, and today we had the pleasure of meeting them both and photographing Feven.

Feven is originally from Africa but she has lived most of her life in Australia, and it was a real treat for us to be able to photograph her and chat with the couple throughout the session. She bought in some great jewellery and fabrics as she wanted to show her African heritage along with a few glamour images.

We hope that you enjoy the results of this session with Feven. If you would like information on a session with us please contact Karen on 0402 230 669 or email on this link.

Promotional images for Opera Singer Petah Chapman

Portrait headshot photography with Petah 017

This session was for a young Opera Singer Petah Chapman. We loved this session, especially since Petah sang through most of it along with the background music. What a beautiful voice.

Petah is 6′ tall and so elegant so we had to add a few “model” type images.

If you would like information on a session please contact Karen on 0402 230669 or by email on this link.

Our 2013 APPA award winning entries

APPA winner 1

This year we decided to enter our first APPA awards (Australian Professional Photography Awards), so we were very pleased to learn that we were awarded two silvers for these two shots.

The news that we’d won an award came on the day Karen and I got married, so it served as a very nice wedding gift for both of us.The first image we took of Gabrielle early this year, and the second was of baby Harrison.Getting an award for baby Harrison was particularly exciting as it was only our second newborn shoot, so it’s good to know it was well received.

Portrait photography for fellow photographer Rachel

Rachel 001

It is always a privilege to be asked by a fellow photographer to shoot them. Rachel drove from Coffs Harbour to come to us for her portrait photographs which makes us feel rather honored. Rachel will be using the image with the camera as her corporate identity image and the rest were for her and her boyfriend.

If you would like a session like this for yourself please contact Karen on 0402 230669 or by email.

Glamour & fashion photography with Gabriella

Gabriella 001

Gabriella came into see us for a glamour and fashion photography session. We had a wonderful day with her and just loved shooting her beautiful curls and creamy white skin. Gabriella hails from Hull in Britain, coincidentally not very far from Deans home town of York so the Yorkshire accent was very dominant for the day. We also shot some beautiful period images and some wedding styles with Gabriella so check out her other posts.

If you would like a photography session with us please contact Karen on 0402 230669 or by email.

Fantasy period portrait photography with Gabriella

Gabriella themed 004

These are a few period images we shot with Gabriella. As she hails from Britain she had the perfect look for the style of image we were after. This was her first time in front of the camera and she was amazing.

At 6′ tall she could well have been a model if university had not enticed her first. We have been watching “The Tudors” and “Game of Thrones” and had to do a session inspired by these amazing shows.
